12 Powerful Steps To Get More Followers On Twitter

12 Powerful Steps To Get More Followers On Twitter

Guy Kawasaki has over 1.42 million followers and he is just one of those Twitter influencers in the world. The biggest question is how do these influencers get more followers on Twitter?

Honestly, what did he (and a dozen more influencers) do to achieve it?

For starters, this doesn’t happen overnight. If you don’t work in Apple, an important person in Google like Matt Cutts or aren’t rich enough like Donald Trump, then you need some serious social media marketing techniques to get more followers on Twitter.

Why would anyone (like you) want to have more Twitter followers? Here are 3 common reasons to start with.

1. More followers mean higher social authority.

Call it ‘show off’ or boosting, the truth is that when you have more followers, you have more social authority. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if these followers are real or bots. In the eyes of the public, having more followers would mean a higher social authority. Period.

2. More followers will grow your influence

Let’s compare the chance of reshare. Let’s say you have 1,000 Twitter followers and having 125 reshare chance would lead you to 10 retweets. On the other hand, having 10,000 Twitter followers will give you 100 retweets. Do I need to say more?

3. More followers would increase the sales revenue

Probably the biggest reason why marketers are using Twitter for their marketing. With a click of a button, you are going to broadcast your product to the world, reaching hundreds or thousands of people at any time. The more followers you have would provider higher chance to get more sales.

And without much delay, let’s carry on with our main goal today; Getting More Followers On Twitter.

1. A smiling face increases the chances of getting more followers on Twitter

According to Social Media Examiner’s post, research has shown that people trust faces more than those generic ones (non-human face), which is why a photo of your smiling face works best (in terms of increasing Twitter followers).

2. Interesting bio attracts attention of potential followers

Probably one of the overlooked areas in Twitter. If you want to get more followers on Twitter, start utilizing the (limited) space in the bio area.

Take the opportunity to tell your future followers something about you and it can be as simple as your expertise. Here’s an example of my current one:

Indifferent Human Being, One-Of-The-Kind Social Media Strategist, Overused Brain, Crazily Ambitious | #Social #Media #Marketing #Business #Entrepreneur

For one, I check on every new follower’s profile bio before I add them up to my Twitter account.

3. Use a custom ‘About Me’ page

Do you know that ‘About Me’ page can help you get more followers on Twitter?
Click To Tweet

Most people including me, use our generic homepage URL for our Twitter profile. But did you notice that most Twitter influencers use this to link to their about me page (like this one on about.me) or their LinkedIn pages?

Having a generic homepage URL is good but at times, you could do better in social media conversion or even sales when you are linking direct pages to your future followers.

Take a moment to think about it. Do you think it is easier for your readers to navigate through all the links on your blog or providing them the link directly?

Another plus point using custom ‘About Me’ page is that you are able to share something about yourself. And in most cases, this is an excellent way to get up close and personal to get more followers on Twitter.

4. The relationship between visibility and getting more followers

If you want to get more followers on Twitter, you got to be visible.

And this is a two-part technique:

Finding the best time to tweet
Using the proper hashtag to boost visibility
If you check on my resource page, there’s one tool which puts my Twitter marketing on 6th gear. The Twitter tool that I can’t live without is SocialBro.

It provides all-in-one Twitter management tool for the best time to tweet, using popular hashtags and even people or influencers you should connect. See SocialBro in action today.

The moral of the story here is simple. The more visible you are, the better the chance you are to get more followers on Twitter.

5. Sharing valuable content (is not dead)

You may be using Buffer to schedule post, HootSuite to boost engagement and SocialBro to analyze your Twitter account. But you are not able to get more followers on Twitter if you are not sharing valuable content with your followers.

Social media isn’t just purely business and you need to balance them up between self-promotional, sharing other content and some personal touches (but avoid too many social rants, if you get what I mean).

6. Posting frequently is important but say “no” to flooding your followers

One of my biggest Twitter mistake done was when I was scheduling over 15 posts a day during the ‘hot zone’.

A hot zone (as I call it) is the time where the majority of your followers are online.

I was counting so much on social media automation which basically killed my social media marketing without noticing it.

The moral of the story? Make every tweet counts as quality is always over quantity.

7. Want more retweets? Keep your posts short.

140 characters. That’s how much you can cram into a tweet. However, if you are looking for the retweet, you got to have the tweet even shorter!

Personally, I suggest going anything under 100 characters and leaving the balance 40 for a Twitter handler and some quick words from the retweet-ers.

Hey Reginald, what retweets have to do with getting more followers?

Here’s an equation:

More retweets = More visibility = More reach = Higher chance to get more followers on Twitter

8. Reply to others publicly

The old school method is that when you want to get real personal, you send a Direct Message (DM) and start a conversation. As for the record, I am no fan of old-school methods and I decided to do something different.

So what happens when you reply to others on the public? Create a conversation publicly and watch your visibility grow. And what happens when you are having a healthy discussion with an influencer?

People are going to notice you and in most cases, you will get at least several new followers.

Trust me, this technique is so simple and it works 99% of the time!

9. Want to get more Twitter followers? Practice strategic following.

When it comes to building Twitter followers, you got to consider the market you are targeting. For example, I’m in social media niche and it would make all the sense for me to follow influencers related to social media.

How this is done? Simply by finding the right people and get connected with them. Watch the video below for more information.

10. Retweet and share other’s tweets

Twitter reveals as high as 8.5% of Twitter monthly users are bots. For once, all of us love real followers and this can be done by being active on Twitter. This means that you need to allocate some time daily to retweet and share tweets with others.

From my personal experience, Twitter users really appreciate a retweet, shares, and favorites. If you want to grow your Twitter followers, the process of retweeting and favorite posts can help you create more conversation with your followers … which is great!

11. Self-promotion on Twitter to be minimum

How does it feels like when you see constant self-promotion from some of your followers on your Twitter?

I bet that is really annoying and if you are thinking of getting more followers on Twitter, self-promotion isn’t going to bring you anywhere close to fame.

The most important rule in getting more Twitter followers is that people need to see the importance of you. This means that your tweets need to be informational and provide constant value to your followers.

A 70-30 rule is good where 70% of the time is used to share links to others or informative tweets and 30% is for your own blog promotion.

12. The power of Twitter auto-responder

Taking a quick read on most social media blogs, you’ll notice that many are not recommending Twitter automation. You know, the auto Direct Message, follow back and retweets.

At Social Media Rush, I recommend you to use it … and it is not for my own gain. Auto-responder for Twitter is powerful and in most cases, we tend to abuse it. For example, sharing 15 times a day doesn’t guarantee that you will get more followers on Twitter.

If you want to get more followers on Twitter, you should use auto-responder tools to create engagement and value. At times, a simple “hi” or “thank you” could go a long way!
